Spirit and soul:

Nafs: the soul, the inner self of a person'

Ruh: the divine spirit, the breath of God that animates a person

The soul lives in peace or in misery according to its former deeds

3 places where a man will only remember himself and no one else:

1) When the scales are erected and the deeds and actions are weighed
2) When the scrolls of actions are handed in the left or right hand
3) In the Traverse (the bridge between hell and heaven) Thinner then a human hair and sharper than a sword

Cosmology in Islam: (William chitick)

Angels: made of pure light (best of beings and invisible)
Jinn: made of fire (in between humans and angels)
Humans: made of clay and darkness

What happens after death ?

1) The experience starts at the very moment of death when the person is visited by Izrail (the angel of death) who comes to take the soul away from the body.

2) On the first night of death two giant sized dangerous angels Munkar and Nakir questions the dead. The questions relate to the foundations of Islam.

According to the persons answers, the grave becomes a pleasant or unpleasant and the person enters into Barzakh.

Barzakh: boundary or barrier between death and resurrection sometimes translated as inter world.

3) Day of Judgement according to Al Ghazali:

3.1) A trumpet will be blown by angel Iseraphiel, this would cause the physical world to be destructed and every living being even the angels would face death. Even
the angel of death IZrail will die as well. Then, Allah would ask 'To whom belongs the Kingdom this day' and no one will be alive to answer the question.

3.2) All of mankind will be gathered barefooted, naked and uncircumcised to stand before God's throne. Each and every one would be questioned by Allah.

3.3) The books and scrolls that contain the deeds of each person are weighed, if the scroll of a persons deeds is given to him in his right hand means his
good deeds are > then bad ones and vice versa if handed over in his left hand.

3.4) Traverse(Bridge over hell): This bridge is sharper then a sword and thinner then a hair.

People who are guilty would fall down into hell on their first step while the pure ones will pass the bridge with a lightening speed into heaven

Muslim rituals of departure:
Burial should take place ASAP with in 24 hours and the family should pay any debts owed by the deceased as quickly as possible

1) They dying one is encouraged to recite Shahadah.

2) The practice of cremation is prohibited as is autopsy except if required legally.

3) Upon death, the eyes and mouth are closed, the body covered facing the qibla

4) The body is to be washed by the relatives of the same sex, and shrouded in plain white cloth without pockets or holes

5) Weeping and grieving for the dead is natural but exessive display of sorrow such as beating ones breast is discoruaged since death takes place according to Allah's will

6) Body is taken to the mosque for the funeral prayer. The funeral prayer is perfromed outside of the mosque.
